JIM GILCHRIST’S FAILED ATTEMPT AT POLITICS

Let’ s not forget Jim Gilchrist’s fudged endorsement of Mike Huckabee’s Presidential Campaign, and the simultaneous response of over 75 Illegal Immigration Enforcement Organizations and Patriots that came together against Jim Gilchrist’s “personal” nomination. I REPEAT.. Over 75 Organizations and Patriots came together against Jim Gilchrist’s Minute Man Project profiteering attempt at politics.

We have captured the letter below from both myspace.com and alipac.us sources. A quick query for the article through google.com showed similar appearances on numerous popular anti-illegal immigration blogs and websites all demonstrating significant support against Jim Gilchrist. Take a peek and see that Jim Gilchrist’s strongest leadership skill is rallying people against himself. We strongly oppose illegal immigration and America’s failure to enforce it’s borders and believe that Jim Gilchrist hinders that movement.

Well, well, well how far do you have to go to totally make yourself look like an ass? Back in September, 2005 I supported Jim Gilchrist’s run for congress. Since that time I covered numerous of his appearances. The man was so outspoken that I devoted a whole category of coverage just to him in the James Gilchrist Archives.

At the time he was a leader in the movement, spurring the formation of the Minuteman Project. Some in the movement who don’t pay attention may still view him in that light, but let me clue you into a few things that have happened since then behind the scenes that you may not be familiar with. And trust me I have been more than fair in giving Gilchrist the benefit of the doubt throughout all of this, but enough is enough and the truth needs to be stated.

First of all there was a struggle for power of the Minuteman Project as Gilchrist was charged with allegedly embezzling funds or fraud or somesuch, I’m not exactly certain on all of that. The project was wrested from his hands by people who were watching what he was doing. At the time I said nothing not wanting to get involved and not having all the facts. Since then Gilchrist has been erratic. He’s been sending out hate mail to leaders in the movement and those who cover illegal immigration on a daily basis and are actively in the fight for the sovereignty of our country.

Gilchrist then went on to make the strange move of endorsing Mike Huckabee for president. Huckabee of course is a pro illegal alien supporter as demonstrated by his actions as governor of Arkansas. There was a gasp throughout the enforcement movement at this very weird action by a man formerly respected by many. The motivation of the endorsement seems to be money or power, nobody is quite sure. He then went on to make appearances with Huckabee touting his stance on immigration as security first.

Those in the movement who questioned him were lambasted with hateful emails from Jim Gilchrist calling them traitors and people who don’t really care about illegal immigration or this country. Basically he was saying people like myself are in it for ulterior motives, when it was clear that the only one with ulterior motives was Gilchrist himself. Gilchrist himself has not actively set up a rally or covered illegal immigration for a long time. All of the rallies he has spoken at recently were organized by others - with their own time and money - with him just showing up to appear. yet these same people he then calls traitors.

Just days ago Gilchrist went out to the border where Minuteman volunteers were patrolling the southern border and brought a news crew with him. These men and women have been out there for 2 years as volunteers watching the border, all while Gilchrist was off doing other things and promoting himself. I personally am not sure how much time Gilchrist has actually spent on the border, but it surely wasn’t as long as these true patriots. These patriots were not happy to see him show up. Watch the video below to see how Gilchrist was received and how Gilchrist reacts to the patriots questioning his lack of physical presence.

So now Gilchrist has totally alienated himself from everyone in the movement except the few who still seem to have blinders on and in a desperate act to blame others, Gilchrist has now decided to file a defamation lawsuit against 100 patriots in the movement that he claims have damaged his reputation.

On April 16, 2008 the first of the summons for the lawsuits were received by Brook Young of Immigration Watchdog, Chelene Nightingale of Save Our State, Barbara Coe of CCIR, Minuteman Project Treasurer Deborah Courtney, and Minuteman Project President Marvin Stewart.

In the summons, of which you can find at this entry at Immigration Watchdog, it is noted below the individuals named above an additional “and Does 1-100 inclusive”. These are people in the movement he has not tracked down yet that have spoken bad about him or pointed out truths about him that they disagree with.

I contest that the only defamation that has occurred against Jim Gilchrist has been done by Jim Gilchrist himself. If you run around acting like an ass to people who believed in you, if you allegedly embezzle funds, if you endorse people who are against everything you say you believe in for your own self interests, you will lose your reputation by your own hand.

It really is a shame, as I at one time felt that Gilchrist was a good man trying to do right by this country. It has now become increasingly clear that this is not the case. I will be awaiting my summons from Gilchrist for pointing out the obvious and for at one time being a supporter of his, because those are the people he has singled out to attack directly and financially with this frivolous lawsuit.

Minuteman Founder Jim Gilchrist Storms Off Democracy Now! Debate With Columbia Student Organizer

On October 11, 2006 Jim Gilchrist appears on the website: “Democracy Now!” through an Interview with Amy Goodman. I was a little shocked at how Jim Gilchrist presented himself in the Interview. The full text of the interview are located at Democracy Now’s website. The interview also had Karina Garcia, at that time the political chair of the Chicano Caucus at Columbia University and a Senior at Columbia University.

Midway through the Interview, Jim Gilchrist cut off his participation with the Interview, particularly when Karina Garcia cornered Gilchrist on the issue of his alleged ties to “The National Alliance,” which is claimed to be a Neo-Nazi organization and of course not before Jim Gilchrist threatened the lady with a lawsuit.

AMY GOODMAN: And what then happened, when people went up on the stage?

KARINA GARCIA: When we went up on the stage, we were attacked by the Minutemen, as is evident in the Univision coverage.

AMY GOODMAN: And your response to the president of your university, Lee Bollinger’s statement on Friday?

KARINA GARCIA: I think that he was feeling a lot of pressure from the rightwing media, FOX News, Bill O’Reilly going on TV when the university is in the middle of a capital campaign and telling donors to stop giving money to the university, them turning this into a free speech issue, which it was not. I think that he was feeling a lot of pressure to react and react quickly without actually seeing the evidence, and I think that if you look at his statement now, I think it’s a lot different once the Univision coverage was shown. And then it showed who really were the people who were attacked and who were the aggressors in the situation.

JIM GILCHRIST: Outright propaganda.

AMY GOODMAN: Jim Gilchrist, your response.

JIM GILCHRIST: Yes, I’m going to end this interview until—for the outcome of—based on legal advice. What this lady is doing is putting a complete spin to her advantage. I don’t—I have never murdered anybody. I have never engaged in violence. I have never encouraged any violence or racism, nor has anyone in the Minuteman Project. This was a concerted, premeditated effort by people like Ms. Garcia to stifle the First Amendment.

KARINA GARCIA: What about your ties to the National Alliance?

JIM GILCHRIST: Now, I’m going to end this now, and you can deal with the law firm that’s going to probably name you and your cohorts—

Despite Jim Gilchrist also running from the Interview, the questioning continued. Karina Garcia had some additional interesting comments about Jim Gilchrist.

AMY GOODMAN: We have just been cut off from our contact with Jim Gilchrist, who is in a studio in Irvine, California, says he had legal counsel to stop talking. Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project and author of the book, Minutemen. Karina Garcia, your response.

KARINA GARCIA: He’s a coward. He is very tough when he has a shotgun and he’s in the middle of a desert intimidating defenseless immigrant families, but when it comes to being challenged by peaceful protesters and by people who understand this man and his organization for what they are, he runs away, and I think that was evident right now.

AMY GOODMAN: What was your comment about the National Alliance?

KARINA GARCIA: It’s very—it’s a known fact, this group recruits people from the National Alliance, one of the biggest neo-Nazi organizations in this country. This is an undisputed fact. Now, the fact that this organization is trying to clean up its image now and the fact that Jim Gilchrist has taken off his Klan hood and put on a suit doesn’t mean that he isn’t what he is and that his organization isn’t what they are. David Duke took off his hood, too. He tried to run for governor of Louisiana, and he put on a suit, and does that change the person that he is, what it represents? Not one bit. What he represents in the Mexican community is the same thing—what the Minutemen represent in the Mexican community is the same thing that David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan represent for the African American community.

We are attempting to locate Karina Garcia for more information about her encounters with Jim Gilchrist since the interview. Many people have come forward to allege harassment by Gilchrist “followers” and sometimes by the “fearless leader” himself. As these claims are verified they will be published at this site.
